Present Korean Marriage Tradition

In the past, conventional Korean bride rites were much more complex and involved a lot of time. The ceremony is a special occasion where a handful pays respect to their parents and ancestors. They also seek gifts for their prospect collectively. Currently, however, modern-day Korean ceremonies have been simplified so that visitors may remain their lives seamlessly after the festival. While still retaining the nature of valuable rituals, current people have also added their own details.

In modern weddings, the bride and groom wear hanbok ( traditional Korean clothes ) instead of white dresses and suits or tuxedos. The wedding frequently wears a beautifully colored hanbok with much flowing skirts and people wear a dark violet or dark hanbok with unfastened jeans.

A key element of the ceremony is a goose(kireogi) which represents fidelity and devotion. It is typically a live bean goose but today it is more often a wooden one. The goose is passed around from tourist to tourist and bowed to. It is a symbolic gesture as geese are known for their extended living and fidelity to their colleagues.

Another important moment is paebaek. This is a ceremony in which the bride and groom give appreciation to their people by offering them tea. They also offer jujubes and chestnut which symbolize sons and daughters. The number of customers can be very big for this meeting and in the past it was only the groom’s orchid romance dating site community who participated but now the bride’s families are frequently invited to.
