Wedding Guest List Etiquette

Wedding host list etiquette varies extensively, but a basic concept is that “whoever pays gets a say”. That means that if your parents or your prospect in- laws are contributing to the bride, they have some levels of veto power over the final host count. Countless couples come up with a target number for the whole wedding and split it into thirds- one fourth for their friends and family, one next for each partner’s family to request whomever they want, and another third for guests to provide a plus- one.

Start with the definites/non- negotiables ( or A- listing, or your may- invite group ). These are persons who you would get disappointed to not have at your ceremony. For some people, this is their urgent household, or nearby friends, for individuals, it may be extended household like aunts, uncles and earliest relatives.

Next, acquire if anyone who gave you a surprise needs to be invited. While it’s wonderful to get remembered by your friends and family, a thank- you note is normally enough.

Then look at the rest of your list. Do you have area for everyone on your wish list, or is it occasion to shave the B- roster? This is the time to be honest with yourself, and if you ca n’t accommodate everyone on your list due to budget or venue space limitations, it’s best to save that spot for someone else.
